Regions Olympic Skeet

The Olympic Skeet East Midlands Championships were held at Northampton Shooting Ground on a blustery but bright day, with clays that would have ‘looped the loop’, (like the acrobatic planes from Sywell Airport were doing in the background), if they had had the opportunity. A well above average 18 shooters did well in the conditions and were patient for the troublesome low house, which tried to cause additional problems. Luckily, Pete and Roy were on hand to provide immediate assistance, if required. Four squads were needed to complete a full day’s shooting, Squad 3 was the dream team, with GB, English and Scottish National shooters all vying for the lead. In the end, the top three places were separated by four clays and the top score of 91 would have been a MQS for the Olympics!

Olympic Skeet – Nicki Brocklesby

Championships, Andrew Lea (Northants) three clays behind and Gary Taylor (Lincs) third just one further clay back. Nikki also gathered up the ladies Regional Championship and the Northants Championship to complete a triple win! In the vets, Mick Taylor (Lincs) took the Championship and Gary Taylor completed his double with the junior Regional Championship.

Double Rise

My apologies to anyone who took the time to shoot this event, I couldn’t get a regional correspondent to attend at Orston so I can only give you a very brief report. So it’s congratulations to Terry Humphreys (Lincs) for taking the overall title, Hazel Whiten (Cambs) for winning ladies, John Stephenson (Lincs) took the vets title and Josh Pearson (Cambs) the junior honours. Thank you to Charlie and his team for flying the flag in our absence.

Bedfordshire

John Taylor |johnt@cpsabeds.co.uk By the time you read this the Intercounties English Sporting will have been held at Sporting Targets for the first time and at the time of writing the final preparations are being made for the day which both the Bedfordshire Committee and all at the ground hope will prove as efficient and enjoyable for all concerned. It has been a very quiet season for me so far so

I must confess I feel a little out of touch with what has been going on for county shooters both locally and further a field, but I am not aware of any

I am pleased to formerly announce that Richard Hunter from Suffolk has been selected by the CPSA management board to represent England as its new team manager for English Sporting. Richard has served on the Suffolk CPSA committee for a number of years and as one of his duties has been the team manager of Suffolk’s successful Sporting team. Such was Richard’s reputation for getting the best out of his team he was invited to become the East Midlands team manager, also for English Sporting. Again Richard’s influence rubbed off and as manager led the Region on to four gold medal performances taking a clean sweep of team titles at the British Championships. Richard had for a number of years set his sights on even higher levels by wanting to become the England manager but could not dislodge the then team manager Tony Heeks, whose record of achievement speaks for itself but now Tony, who has been doing the job for about 15 years,

stand out performances and a search of the web has not really helped with information. Are we all feeling the effect of the hard economic times and cutting back or are you guys all shy about telling us about your achievements? Please if you have done something good let me know so I can report on it. In July, John Stanton, as senior county ESP champion, represented the county at the CPSA Champion of Champion events at the CLA Game Fair. John, sadly, did not feel he shot anywhere his usual standard and failed to progress past the early rounds of the competition but he did report that the event was, once again, a disappointment. I felt the same last year, but with the 2011 event

decided it was time to hang up his manager’s tracksuit and pass the mantle onto someone else. Richard has already started to plan his first challenge for the England team, which will be a trip to New Zealand where the England team will compete in the World Federation Championships early next year although he does not officially take over till after the Home Internationals at Barrow Heath. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Richard on his appointment and wish him the very best of luck and also thank Tony Heeks and his wife Linda for their time, effort and commitment whilst performing this role over the years.

being at Blenheim in Oxfordshire I think we should give the competition one last chance. At the time of writing, Pete Green is compiling a

list of Bedfordshire shooters that have represented their country at international events and has asked if I can forward a request for any information on these stars to be sent to me so that I can forward the details to him. He is after name, discipline and year plus any other interesting information that you may have.

Cambs Olympic Skeet Championship was held at Northampton Shooting Ground on 18 July along with all the other EM Counties. This very popular discipline brought only the hardened Cambs Shooters the front. All six of them but nevertheless they had a good day. The result was that it was a first Championship for David Christensen and very well shot it was. If you have never had a go at it, you should try. Gun down, up to three seconds delay and very fast targets, this is not for the faint hearted.

50 | PULL! September 2010

Very well done David with a super 74, Rod Gifford came in second with a 68 and another Vets win.

Other Scores were Tim Jones 60, Graham

Carter with 66 – this could have been much better but for the fact Graham would keep opening his gun on peg 4 therefore losing targets without even firing a shot – John Barnard 61 and Tony Randall with 53.

Can I put in a request for help? The Carol Wright Memorial and Fenland championship is on 3 October. We are looking for help with scoring. If you would like to help this very worthy cause, please contact me. We raised over £4000 last year for Cancer Research.
