Event at Sporting Targets
THE INAUGURAL JACK Pyke Pro Sport English Open 2010 was held at Sporting Targets over four days from Wednesday 16 to Sunday 20 June. With a total prize fund of £5000 shooters were attracted from all over the UK to compete. The weather over the four days was on the whole good, with
Wednesday and Thursday having the best by way of sunshine and light wind. Friday brought windier weather, with a few showers in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday remained dry, albeit more breezy and overcast.
The shoot itself was over 14 stands with a wide variety of targets. Squads were transported by mini bus to the first stand, to save their legs and energy and there were buggies available for those who preferred to ride rather than walk the 40 acre ground. Wednesday had 42 shooters including Graham Stirzaker, John Lee, Steve Cox, Chris Broomfield, Julian Freeman, Paul Simpson and Barry Simpson. The high score on the day was held by Steve Cox on 93, Julian Freeman on 91, Barry and Paul Simpson on 81 and 90 respectively, John Lee on 90 and Graham Stirzaker on 86 Thursday, George Digweed shot a 90. The turnout was slightly higher than the previous day with 44 entries, but Steve Cox’s high score remained. Friday had fewer entries than the previous two days, Becky Bream returning an 81. Martin Myers shot a 92, John Dyson returning an 87. Saturday had 15 squads with notable scores from Stuart Clark on 92, Ed Solomans 83, Chris Childerhouse 87 and Susan Hallwood on 70. The final day, had 20 squads with notable scores coming from Fred Kidd, N Hendrick, Mike Lankshear.
The top three: high gun SA Cox 93 £750, runner up SM Clarke 92 £400, third M Myers 92 £400.
