Debbie Windle managing director, Destinology

I joined Saga Travel originally in 1996 with a short break between 2004 and 2006. During my time at Saga I’ve been lucky enough to have experience in various senior roles in both finance and business transformation. I’ve also been fortunate to be heavily involved in shaping the direction of Saga Holidays and most recently the wider tour operating division. I was also instrumental in setting up the transformation team at Saga and my time in this role has allowed me to widen my knowledge of the business as a whole. I had a lead role in the acquisition of Destinology in 2014 so I was familiar with the commercial side of the business, and I worked closely with many of the team before becoming managing director in September so I was really looking forward to getting started. My appointment to my current position at Destinology is a great example of how, as a business we invest in our people and demonstrate talent management across the divisions.

My new role is

a great example

of how we invest in our people

I started my working life as a teacher, but after going travelling and living abroad, I decided I wanted to work in travel. I joined Trailfinders where my first job was handing out paper air tickets to customers before they travelled. After seven years there I moved into technology, including setting up websites for Thomson, and also had some jobs in marketing. Ten years ago, I joined Gap Adventures, which is now called G Adventures, and I oversee all our sales activity around the world from our five global sales headquarter offices in Toronto, Boston, Melbourne, London and Berlin. As a truly global $500 million company, we are committed to providing our people with a career that includes exploring the world by offering the option to work in different departments and any of our 28 global offices. I’m living proof of that ethos as I’ve taken opportunities that have come my way to work in Australia and Canada, as well as in the UK, in the past decade.
