Our career journeys

Laura Horton Tenerife destination manager, Jet2holidays

❛ 26

I came from the spa industry and joined Jet2holidays in 2014 after having my two daughters, and I haven’t looked back since. I started as a resort representative and then became a resort team leader in 2016, looking after the team of 15 in the resort. Since 2017 I have been the Tenerife destination manager and I’m responsible for the management of Jet2holidays’ whole operation on the island. We have more than 40 staff here now, and we deliver industry- leading customer service for our valued clients in more than 100 hotels. My job involves the resource planning, implementation and operational

management of all aspects of our business in Tenerife. I love the variety and fast pace of the job, and no two days are the same. I have been mentored and encouraged every step of the way from the start of my career, and Jet2holidays is a fantastic company for recognising people’s potential, nurturing them and helping them achieve their aspirations to drive the business forward.

I graduated from Bournemouth University in 2010 with a BA (Hons) in Tourism Management. While I was at university I spent a year working for British Airways in the online marketing department, which is when I knew marketing within travel was the route I wanted to take. I spent three years working for the Harbour Hotels Group, starting as marketing assistant and progressing to marketing manager before joining ROL Cruise. So I’ve worked on air, land and sea going from an airline to hotels and now a cruise company. Cruise was totally new to me, but a can-do attitude helped me progress from direct marketing executive, to direct marketing team leader, marketing manager and now my current role. ROL’s internal development programme gave me the tools to be the best I can be and ROL believed in me and placed their confidence in me. Sometimes I was pushed in the deep end, but this gave me the drive to prove myself and always swim, even if my feet were paddling like crazy underneath!
