The ABU is Gaining Global Recognition
increasingly popular year after year. Dr Mottaghi added that in 2017 there will be some important activities related to New Media and more training workshops will be conducted for journalists. Bhutan and Papua New Guinea are first on the list.
The ABU Secretary-General also explained the reasons behind the resignation of some members during 2016. Some have been facing financial constraints while others think that the ABU is not important for them. Some other members have been suspended due to their failure to honour their outstanding debts. As of today, the ABU has 275 members in 69 countries.

his statement was made by the Acting President of the ABU in his opening remarks of the
102nd Administrative Council meeting (ACM) in Bali. Mr Hikaru Doumoto was referring to the active participation of ABU members from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond in the numerous activities of the Union over the past year. He added that the Administrative Council recognises the effort and contribution of the ABU Secretariat and the Secretary-General in the success of the ABU in performing its major activities.

Mr Mohammad Rohanudin, President Director of Radio Republik Indonesia for hosting the 53rd ABU General Assembly and its Associated Meetings.
Dr Mottaghi informed the meeting that for the ABU Long Term Plan (2016-2020), more services will be implemented in more countries. He recalled that during the past year there were more than 100 activities run in 16 countries where more than 5500 media professionals were concerned. New projects started in 2016 such as the ABU Music Exchange and the ABU Sports Network are attracting more and more members. Other on-going activities like the Radio Song Festival, the RadioAsia, TV Song Festival, the ABU Prizes, Robocon, PMPC and DBS are becoming
The venues for the future General Assemblies and Associated Meetings have also been announced. China will host the events in 2017 in Chengdu. In 2018, the venue will be Ashghabat, Turkmenistan. The meetings will be in Tokyo- Japan in 2019. RTM will be the host in 2020 where the meetings will take place in Kuala Lumpur. The other GAs are scheduled as follows: 2021- Either Thailand or Bangladesh, 2022- Myanmar (TBC), 2023-Seoul, South Korea, 2024- TBC, 2025- Tokyo, Japan and 2026- Uzbekistan. Communication is underway between the ABU and all the host countries.
The 102nd ACM approved the minutes of the 101st ACM held in May 2016 in Fiji. The 103rd ACM is scheduled to take place on 19 May 2017 in Da Nang, Vietnam.
