Ms Supriya Sahu, Director General of Doordarshan- India elected ABU Vice President


ABU, the largest broadcasting union in the world. She looks forward to having the full support of all ABU members and working together with them for the benefit of the broadcasting sector in the Asia-Pacific region.

Ms Supriya Sahu, a senior Indian Administrative Service officer was appointed earlier this year as Director General of Doordarshan, the public


n a video message, Ms Supriya Sahu said it’s an honour for her to be one of the three Vice Presidents of the


service broadcaster of India. Prior to this she was Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.


During her tenure she headed a team working on the installation of around 30 million set top boxes needed for the digitisation of Cable TV channels in India. She has rich experience in working on content regulation and policy matters relating to Television ratings, DTH and community Radio. She is well known for her work in setting up more than 150 community


MNL-Papua New Guinea and RRI- Indonesia join the Administrative Council

hree seats of the Administrative Council (AC) were also up for election. ABU members re-elected KBS- Korea and elected MNL-Papua New Guinea and RRI-


Indonesia as new members to the Administrative Council. The term of the newly elected members of the Administrative Council will be for three years.With effect from 1 January 2017, the Administrative Councillors are: · 1. National Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA)

3. Radio and Television of the People’s Republic of China (RTPRC)


4. Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) 5. Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) 6. Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) 7. Doordarshan/ Prasar Bharati, India (DD)


8. Nippon Hoso Kyokai, Japan (NHK) 9. Kazmedia Ortalygy Management Company Ltd. (KMO) 10. Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) 11. Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) 12. Teledifusao de Macau (TDM) 13. HUM Network Limited , Pakistan ( HUM TV) 14. Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) 15. Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT)

radio stations in various parts of the country. She also handled licensing and regulation of private TV channels.


Ms Supriya Sahu worked extensively with Doordarshan and All India Radio on the expansion and the modernisation of their network. She also handled the allocation of planned programmes of Prasar Bharati, including content funding.


Ms Supriya Sahu joins the other two Vice Presidents of the ABU, Mr Hikaru Doumoto, Executive Vice President of NHK-Japan and Mr Şenol Göka, Director General of TRT-Turkey.


Both the new President and the Vice President started their term with immediate effect and will continue their service to the ABU for the next three years from January 2017.
