ABU ALUMNI – Maintaining a Lifelong Relationship
T
he General Assembly in Bali approved the idea to set up an ABU ALUMNI with the objective of establishing a lifelong relationship and partnership between all former ABU collaborators and the Union. It also aims to keep the friends of the ABU connected to the ABU Family.
Every year, many highly talented and experienced professionals retire or leave the ABU member organisations to pursue other opportunities. As a result, they are unable to stay in touch with the ABU Family and continue to contribute to its development. Therefore, their invaluable services to the Union and its members are lost.
The ABU highly values these partnerships and individual intellectual input and would like to keep these professionals in its fold. It is with this objective that the concept of ABU ALUMNI was conceived and approved at the 93rd ACM held in Maldives on 14 May 2012. The idea was revived at the 102nd Meeting of the Administrative Council in Bali on 22 October 2016 based on the recommendations of the ABU Planning and Strategy Group.
The ABU ALUMNI will be coordinated by the ABU Secretariat and all nominations will be made to the ABU Secretary-General. The list of nominees will then be submitted to the ABU President and the Administrative Council for their information and approval.
All potential talented individual professionals amongst the ABU Family are eligible to be a member of the ABU ALUMNI. This includes Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), senior media and broadcast professionals, Chairpersons of various ABU Committees, Directors of the ABU Secretariat and Honorary ABU Councilors.
The ABU ALUMNI members will be invited to conduct ABU training courses as consultants or resource persons from time to time. They can also deliver speeches at the relevant ABU activities and participate in some events such as DBS, PMPC, RadioAsia and the Radio Song Festival. The members can also contribute articles to ABU publications.
Membership is free. 38 ABU News
