New Innovative Activities to be Implemented in 2017

The year 2017 starts with new initiatives such as the ABU International Dance Festival, the ABU Sports Network, the ABU Digital Strategy and other events related to digital media. Dr Mottaghi said that the future vision of the ABU is

two-fold: Strengthening the current activities and initiating new projects.
He recalled that the number of ABU members has increased from 192 in 2010 to 279 in 2016 and Asiavision has today 31 members compared to 19 in 2010. Progress has also been achieved in the revenue of the Union which is growing to a satisfactory level year after year.
The ABU Secretary-General thanked all members for the success of some key events in their respective countries such as: 2016 RadioAsia and Radio Song Festival in Beijing, China, 3rd Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction in Krabi, Thailand, ROBOCON in Bangkok, Thailand and PMPC in Papua New Guinea.

He also announced that the ABU Copyright Committee will be renamed as the ABU Intellectual Property and Legal Committee. This is to accurately reflect the scope of issues within an enlarged mandate of the new committee.
Mr Rosario informed the General Assembly that the ABU is planning to set up the ABU Alumni. It will be an opportunity for retired or leaving media professionals from member countries to stay in touch with the Union and to contribute to its activities.
