KBS President & CEO recognised at Asian Television Awards

BS President & CEO, Mr Ko Dae-young who is also the ABU President has received an Award for Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television


in recognition of his contributions to the broadcast and television industry at this year’s Asian Television Awards.


The award which was remitted to Mr Ko on 1 December 2016 at Suntec Singapore recognised the efforts made by KBS-Korea to produce distinctive TV content such as Descendants of the Sun which has taken Asia by storm.


Mr Ko said that the award will be fresh encouragement for KBS producers who are always striving to create outstanding programs. He added that he will continue his efforts to make content which can be universally engaged by both local and global audiences. KBS has been leading the Korean- Wave epitomised in such drama series as Winter Sonata and the most recently Descendants of the Sun and Love in the Moonlight.


Mr Raymond Wong, Chairman of Asian Television Awards said that Mr Ko made an impact on Asian Television industry with his exceptional business acumen and positive drive.


Farewell to Former ABU Vice President, Mr Jawhar Sircar

he ABU Secretariat expresses its deep appreciation and gratitude to Mr Jawhar Sircar, ex-Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati, India and ex-Vice President of the Union. Prasar Bharati runs the two broadcasting networks


of India: Doordarshan and All India Radio.


We all recall the intensive support and cooperative attitude of Mr Sircar during his tenure at the ABU during the last two years. Mr Sircar was elected Vice President of the ABU at the 51st General Assembly in Macau in October 2014.


On November 4 this year, Mr Sircar resigned as CEO of Prasar Bharati after having served in this position for nearly four years. Before this, he was Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India from late 2008 to February 2012. It is reported that he has been able to break new ground and introduce digital technologies and cut down obsolescence at Prasar Bharati.


Mr Jawhar Sircar graduated in Political Science from Presidency College, India. He did his Masters in Ancient Indian History and Culture from Calcutta University and a second Masters in Sociology, with Social Anthropology. He also studied at the University of Cambridge and the University of Sussex in the UK. Mr Sircar regularly contributes articles to some famous publications in India.
