he latest winners are DDI-India and CCTV-China.
Doordarshan-India won the November award for its coverage of the derailment of an express train in Uttar Pradesh that claimed many lives. The Indore-Patna express train derailed near the industrial town of Kanpur on 20 November.
DDI also won the October award for its coverage of a deadly fire at a hospital in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. At least 19 patients were killed and over 100 others injured in the fire that broke out in the ICU wing of the Institute of Medical Sciences & SUM hospital in Bhubaneshwar on the evening of 17 October.
CCTV won the September award for its coverage of super typhoon Meranti which wreaked havoc as it made landfall in south-eastern Chinese province of Fujian. Meranti caused serious damage to trees and water- supply facilities in the province while some 2.6 million households also suffered blackouts.
A total of 14 carriages crumpled into one another in the derailment, leaving many people trapped inside the coaches. At least 146 lives were lost in the tragedy.
The blaze was suspected to have been started by an electrical short circuit in the dialysis ward on the first floor of the private hospital and then spread to the nearby Intensive Care Unit.
Thousands of troops were deployed for rescue and relief work. Meranti, which made landfall in Fujian province in the early hours of the morning of 15 September, was the most powerful typhoon so far this year.
VTV-Vietnam Won the ASEAN Best Contribution Award

ietnam Television has won this year’s ASEAN Contribution Award, sponsored annually by
Asiavision. The ASEAN Television News Exchange Awards (ATN) is a pioneering platform to disseminate information on activities in the ASEAN Community.
ATN was introduced in January 1998 to allow the television networks of ASEAN member states to promote community- building efforts and instill awareness of ASEAN among the region’s people. ATN also aims to unite and inspire people in the ASEAN community under the motto ‘One Vision, One Identity, One Community’.
In appreciation of the efforts and contributions, ASIAVISION (AVN) has contributed fully to the operation of the ATN.
It has helped in expanding
the exposure of ATN to members of the organisation. This year saw the ASIAVISION Best Contribution Award given to Vietnam Television (VTV) of the People’s Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The award presentation was officiated by His Excellency Savankhone Razmountry, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lao PDR. The winner was announced by Mr. Mawardi bin Haji Mohammad, the Acting Director of Information as Chairman of the Sub-Committee of ASEAN-COCI in the field of Information (SCI).
Mr. Mawardi said that the recipient for this year’s award, Vietnam Television (VTV), was recognised for its dedication and continuous active and invaluable contribution to this news exchange project. Vietnam Television, a longtime member of the ATN, is an active broadcaster and shows support to the progress and success of the ATN.
He also expressed appreciation for Brunei as the country coordinator of the ATN as well as to all member states of ASEAN for their cooperation, continued support and contributions to the ATN.

The prize presentation ceremony was held during the Gala Dinner in honour of the delegations of ASEAN member countries attending the 51st Meeting of ASEAN-COCI.
