Generation WHAT? To be Launched in Asia by 2018

his is a web-based survey conceived for young generations by broadcasters
with the support of the European Union and UNESCO. Social media is a major component of the exercise.
The ABU programming department announced in Bali that such a project forms part of the new initiatives to be implemented as soon as possible. Generation WHAT? was first launched in France some years back and the response was highly impressive with
80 million results across Europe. Young people aged between 18 and 34 are asked to answer more than 100 questions and all data received from the survey helps broadcasters to produce and air programmes and documentaries related to youth matters, education and family issues.

WHAT? can help create a new kind of television/radio programme for the broadcasters in this region.
It is reported that following the huge success in Europe, the project will be implemented as from next year in the Middle East and later in Asia.
Over the years, Vijay has contributed extensively in the setting up of the ABU Radio Working Party, the ABU Radio Song Festival, the ABU Radio News Exchange, the Media 2020 Conference, Sports feeds for the ABU radio broadcasters, the ABU Music Exchange and the ABU “Backpack” Workshops. She nurtured and developed the RadioAsia Conference into a powerful radio conference, attracting radio professionals from 4 continents.
Her professional experience spans more than 28 years in the field of television and radio programming and broadcasting. She has also served on the jury panel of prestigious international radio competitions like the New York Festival, Iran International Radio Festival, the Turquoise Festival of Turkey and the Grand Prix Nova Drama Festival in Romania.

ijay Sadhu joined the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) in 2005 to take up the position of Senior Executive for Programming. She has initiated
Vijay Sadhu started her media career in 1980 in All India Radio – Doordarshan, the national public broadcaster of India. As a Programme Executive, she was responsible for conceptualising, directing and creating TV and radio programme content. She also took up senior management responsibilities later, rising to the position of the Deputy Director of the National Station of All India Radio. She has vast professional experience in the field of radio and television programming and broadcasting, having directed and produced more than 1400 radio and TV programmes in her career.
As an artist, Vijay has made many public performances playing on Sitar (the string instrument in Indian music) and on electric guitar. She holds a Master’s degree in Indian instrumental classical music.
Vijay Sadhu will retire from the ABU in July 2017.
