Protecting human lives before, during and after any disaster is mandatory. Ms Niken Widiastuti, Director General Information and Public Communication in the Indonesian government announced that today in her country the Broadcasting Laws cater for disaster preparedness and the Disaster Information System Plans 2016 is a priority for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.


The panellists replied to some relevant comments and questions from the floor. Attendees learned that in the United States, there is a Climate Investment Fund. The Fijian government is presently upgrading the transmission networks to allow a countrywide coverage of AM and FM radio service and Nepal is proposing the creation of a Climate Justice Movement.


Broadcasting For All: Diversity and Inclusion in the Media


The media has the fundamental task of promoting cohesion. Broadcasting is beyond race, colour, religion, and culture. Radio and television content should be inclusive of society as


a whole. Special care should be addressed to minority groups and people with cognitive disabilities. All these points were raised during the second forum of the Super Panel session moderated by Mr Anothai Udomsilp, Director of ThaiPBS Academic Institute of Public Media in Thailand.


The panellists came from various backgrounds: Mr Hanafis Rais-Member of Commission 1 of the Indonesian House of Parliament, Ms Shanthi


Bhaghirathan-Group Director of MBC Networks, Sri Lanka, Ms Natasha Eves-External Affairs Manager at SBS Australia, Ms Robyn Scott-Vincent, CEO of Attitude Pictures-New Zealand, Ms Faiasea Matafeo-Managing Director of Samoa Broadcasting Corporation and Mr Dan Buckingham, General Manager, The Attitude Group, New Zealand. It was unanimous among all of them that diversity and inclusion of all groups in the media helps promote nation building and social harmony.
