Spectacular Fusion of a Fairytale, Fantasy, and Action
Thrilling. Exhilarating. It’s a classic fairytale with a haunting twist. This isn’t your typical princess happy story, but a fast-paced drama of a classic tale that was once every little girls’ dream. “Snow White and the Huntsman” was definitely a surprising movie. I expected more of a happy fairytale with a slight twist, nothing much, but I was over- whelmed with the dramatic plot and the characters’ motives. The riveting plot is sure to have you gripped to your chair and the back- ground story has the general gist of the original story but with a dark touch. If you like action-packed yet classic romantic drama, you’re bound to love “Snow White and the Huntsman”. During this intense movie, somewhere along the middle, a love tri- angle formed between Snow White, the huntsman, and William, her childhood friend. It was definitely a spin to this action fantasy. I love how the movie brought many surprises along the journey of Snow White and the huntsman. You can’t forget the queen, determined to be the “fairest” of them all. When the kingdom is seized by the Dark Army and Ravenna, the queen takes over and locking in Snow White, the former king’s daughter. When she figures out that Snow White is the fairest, she is out for the kill of Snow White, and she orders her brother and the Dark Army to kill Snow White. But she escapes into the dark forest where Eric, the huntsman, comes into play. The al- coholic huntsman finds Snow White and they escape from the Dark Army and fall upon the dwarves. When William, her good childhood friend, comes along, the triangle rises. Who is Snow White destined to be with and what is to come of the “happily ever after”? The parts that were interesting yet exquisite were the scenes in the evil dark forest, it brought up fears I never even knew existed. It was really exciting to see fantasy blossom on the theater screen. I was riveted by the odd tricks of the dark forests, for example, the trees that suddenly morphed into terrifying creatures. The way that the queen tortures or kills innocent beings to stay young and fair taught a lesson that true beauty lay also on the inside and not just the out- side. For example, the queen was charming and beautiful on the out- side features but she had an ugly character on the inside and Snow White was both striking, inside and out. This movie also plays a little with trust because of how Snow White willingly trust Eric, the hunts-

man, and how the dwarves accepted to help Snow White. In my honest opinion, the movie was much different from I expected. I did expect the twist to the fairytale but the whole gist and storyline was shocking and unpredicted. The scary and dark taste of action was a bombshell to me. Don’t get me wrong! it was lovely movie but it wasn’t my call. It wasn’t a movie that I exactly loved, but I liked its different features and its originality. Out of 10 stars, I give it a 8, for its intricate details and unique plot twist. Yes, I would still recommend the movie to fantasy lovers that want something different and some- what bittersweet. In the end, I still liked the movie, overall, but it just wasn’t a wowing favorite.
스릴. 짜릿함. 이 영화는 인상적인 비틀기가 있는 고전 동화예요. 전형적 인 행복한 공주 이야기는 아니지만 빠른 전개가 있는, 어린 소녀라면 누구 나 한번쯤 꿈꿔봤을 법한 고전 동화예요. “백설공주와 사냥꾼”은 정말로 놀라운 영화였어요. 저는 비틀기는 있더라도 좀 더 행복한 동화를 기대했 었는데, 극적인 줄거리와 인물들의 동기에 압도당하고 말았어요. 눈을 뗄 수 없는 줄거리는 관객들을 의자에서 떠나지 못하게 했고, 배경 이야기는 원작의 요지를 따르되 어두운 부분을 가미했어요. 만약 액션이 있는 고전 로맨스를 원한다면 “백설공주와 사냥꾼”이 바로 그 영화예요. 이 강렬한 영화가 중간쯤 됐을 때, 백설공주, 사냥꾼, 그리고 공주의 어릴 적 친구인 윌리엄 사이에 삼각관계가 생겼어요. 그건 분명 이 액션 판타지 의 또 다른 축이었어요. 저는 이 영화가 백설공주와 사냥꾼의 여행을 따라 가며 그 많은 놀라운 이야기들을 해주는 게 너무 좋았어요. 여러분은 누 구보다도 자신이 가장 아름답다고 자부하는 그 여왕을 잊지 못할 거예요. 암흑의 군대(Dark Army)와 여왕 Ravenna는 왕국을 장악하고 권력을 위 임 받아 선왕의 딸인 백설공주를 감금해요. 그리고 백설공주가 가장 아름 답다는 걸 알았을 때 여왕은 그녀를 없애기 위해 남동생과 암흑의 군대에 게 백설공주를 죽이라고 명령하죠. 하지만 백설공주는 어두운 숲으로 도 망가고, 이때 사냥꾼 에릭이 등장해요. 알코올 중독자인 사냥꾼은 백설공 주를 발견한 후, 둘은 암흑의 군대를 벗어나 난쟁이들과 마주치게 되죠. 그리고 백설공주의 소꿉친구인 윌리엄이 나타나면서 삼각관계가 모습을 드러내요. 과연 누가 백설공주와 함께 할 운명이며, “그 후로도 영원히 행 복하게 살았답니다”는 결말은 어떻게 되는 걸까요? 재미있으면서도 절묘했던 부분들은 사악한 암흑의 숲에서 있었던 장면들 인데, 제게 있었는지도 몰랐던 공포심을 불러일으켰어요. 영화관의 스크
