Achieve your goals
Young people are most successful on full-time programmes. You can mix qualifications, but we would expect you to be studying for at least 12 ½ hours per week, which will include developing your Maths and English skills further. An exception to studying 12 ½ hours per week, is if you are taking a qualification as part of SHS’s joint provision with another school or college.
• You’ll get regular feedback on your achievement, attendance and punctuality during your weekly tutorial.
• You’ll also receive three personal progress reports each year, in October, February and May.
• Your parents/carers/responsible adult will be invited to join you for feedback on your progress at progress evenings.
• Your assignments/homework will be returned to you within two weeks, with marking feedback that shows you how to improve your work.
• You will have a named tutor and your tutorials will cover academic performance and other issues – some will be as a class and others will be on a one-to-one basis.
• Whatever your course, your tutorials will include career information and guidance, progression routes, how to apply to other courses and their entry requirements.
• Most 16-18 year-old full time students have a work experience placement.
• Your tutor will help you to develop your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) where you set yourself targets which help you to achieve your goal of successfully completing your course and other related achievements.
