A Levels

AS / A2 Biology You will develop an understanding of Biology by exploring how our lifestyles and our genes affect our health. AS modules cover: diet, disease, genetics and inheritance, reproduction, biodiversity and the environment. A2 modules cover ecosystems, global warming, infection, immunity and forensics. One piece of coursework is needed for each year: a report of a biological issue such as obesity or the HIV virus at AS Level and a report of an individual investigation at A2. We advise that you study Chemistry alongside Biology.

Entry requirements: 5 GCSEs at grade A-C, including a B in a science subject.

Possible next steps: Higher Education or employment.

AS / A2 Chemistry You will study the concepts of chemistry through experiment and investigation. Modules cover: metal compounds, organic chemistry, periodic table, acids and bases, group ii and group vii elements, energy, bonding, intermolecular forces and electrode potentials reaction rates, entropy, polymers, reversible reactions, transition elements and organic synthesis. Through this study, you will build a picture of the substances of the world and their interaction at the atomic level, which leads to the development of new materials such as polymers, plastics and drugs.

DREAM IT. ACHIEVE IT. LIVE IT.

Entry requirements: 5 GCSEs at grade A–C, including a B in a science subject.

Possible next steps: Higher Education or employment.
