Media and Multimedia


Five HCC Media students saw their outstanding films make it to the big screens at the legendary Rio Cinema in Hackney. The students, who all studied on the BTEC Media Production course, impressed the audience with their exceptional film-making skills. The films were shown at an event showcasing the talents of media students from across the borough.

BTEC Level 3 Extended


Diploma in Creative Media This course covers the practical skills required to work in the television, video and film industries. Over the 2 years you will shoot and edit your own videos using Final Cut HD to complete a range of creative and semi-professional production briefs. You will also learn the basics of 2D Animation using Flash and develop analogue SLR and digital photography techniques. Theoretical concepts in film, television, animation and still photography are studied and you will present and write critical analyses of texts you have viewed, as well as researching for and scripting your own material. Group work and professional practice is essential in gaining this qualification. Industry links are made through visits, guest speakers and a field trip.


Entry requirements: You should have 4 GCSEs at grade A-C or equivalent. Plus, in addition to showing a genuine interest in the subject, you will need to show a sample of your work.


Possible next steps: Higher Education or employment within the media industry.


BTEC level 3 Extended


Diploma in Multimedia The programme combines practice and theory to develop creative skills using high specification Apple Mac computers and industry standard software. Students work in 2D and 3D graphics and animation, print design and interactive multimedia. Software used includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Director, After Effects and Maya. Industry links are made through visits, guest speakers and a field trip.
