A group of green-fingered LDD students did their bit for the environment by working on a seven week gardening project with a local environmental charity. The students learnt about sustainable living by making an insect hotel, newspaper plant pots and doing some willow weaving.
New Horizons This is a course for people who are leaving special educational needs schools. The course provides supported transition to College courses and covers a range of independent skills such as: healthy living, social development, keeping safe, work skills, communication skills and literacy and numeracy. You will have the chance to participate in supported work experience (where possible) as well as take part in lots of activities such as arts and crafts, horticulture, cookery and running the College’s Essential Café. We will build the timetable based around your individual needs. At the end of the course, you will gain a Certificate of Personal and Social Development (ASDAN) and an Award in Personal Progress.

Pathway to Independent Living and Supported
Employment This course is designed for learners aged between 16 and 20 with learning difficulties, who want to progress from pre-entry level to entry level 1 and above. The emphasis is on learning about independence, and how to achieve this aim. There are a variety of subjects taught by our team of teachers, to offer a balanced programme of activities to suit all interests: ICT, sports, cooking, environmental studies, personal safety and preparation for work. There are also discrete lessons in numeracy and literacy, to help students to improve their abilities in reading, writing, speech, arithmetic, measurements and using money. Students will qualify for ASDAN awards in personal progress, or personal social development. Students will have the opportunity to have work experience where appropriate.
