Hospitality and Catering


Tony Smart was offered an exclusive place on the work experience programme at prestigious hotel The Savoy. Tony, who studies Professional Cookery at HCC, was selected from a large number of applicants to work in the kitchens of the world renowned hotel. The trainee chef, from Walthamstow, supported other chefs in preparing a range of dishes as part of the two week placement.

Certificate in Hospitality and Catering (entry level 1) This introductory hospitality course is ideal for learners with learning difficulties. As part of your practical training, you will operate the Essential Café based at the college, once a week.

Possible next steps: Hospitality and Catering (entry level 2) Catering.


Certificate in Hospitality and Catering (entry level 2) This is a natural progression on completion of the Catering entry level 1 course. You will improve your skills set in hospitality. As part of your practical training, you will operate the Essential Café based at the college, once a week.


Entry requirements: College interview or entry level 1.


Possible next steps: Hospitality (NVQ level 1).


Entry Certificate in Hospitality and Catering


(ESOL) This introductory hospitality course is ideal for people who speak English as a second language and have learning difficulties. As part of your practical training, you will operate the Essential Café based at the college, once a week.


Entry requirements: College interview.


Possible next steps: Entry level 1 Catering course.


Foundation Certificate in Hospitality and Catering


(level 1) This is an introductory course into the hospitality industry. It is a flexible programme for people who are interested in working within the hospitality industry. It provides the opportunity for you to train and develop skills and knowledge across different aspects of both the kitchen and the service / bar area.


Entry requirements: College interview. A relevant 1-week work experience is desirable.


Possible next step: Hospitality (NVQ level 2) or employment in a café or deli as a kitchen assistant.
