A group of HCC Business Studies students demonstrated their sharp enterprise skills when they helped local hotel Avo Hotel launch their summer marketing campaign. The Level 3 students, who were on a two month internship at the hotel, helped to organise activities including a dynamic fashion show which was a huge success. The hotel staff were extremely impressed with the students’ innovative ideas, extensive knowledge and professional attitude.

Level 1 BTEC Certificate in Retail Knowledge This course gives a basic introduction to working in the retail industry. The course covers areas such as the different types of retail outlets and occupations, customer service, the selling process, stock control, health, safety and security, as well as how teams and individuals contribute to the effectiveness of a retail business.


Entry requirements: College interview and assessment.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in


Business This Level 2 qualification is designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in business studies. You will learn the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for employment. On successful completion of this course, you can progress to or within employment and/or continue your study in the same, or related vocational area.


Entry requirements: Successful completion of the BTEC level 1 Diploma or 4 GCSEs at grade D-G.


Possible next steps: BTEC level 3 Diploma in Business and/or employment.


DREAM IT. ACHIEVE IT. LIVE IT. BTEC Level 3 Diploma in


Business This qualification is designed to provide a highly specialist work-related qualification in business studies. It will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for employment. The qualifications also provide progression opportunities to related areas of study within universities and other institutions. The level 3 Diploma qualification is equal to 2 A Levels.


Entry requirements: BTEC level 2 Diploma in Business or 4 GCSEs at grades A-C.


Possible next steps: HND or Degree courses or employment.


BTEC Level 3 Extended


Diploma in Business This qualification is similar to the course above, but you study 18 units instead of 12. It is designed to provide a highly specialist work-related qualification in business studies. It will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for employment. The qualification also provides progression opportunities to related areas of study within universities and other institutions. The level 3 Extended Diploma qualification is equal to 3 A Levels.


Entry requirements: A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above.


Possible next steps: University or employment.
