BTEC Level 3 Sports students planned and hosted a hugely successful 2012 Olympics Day for local primary school pupils. The students organised a range of activities for the youngsters including a practical sports session in the SPACe sports hall which they thoroughly enjoyed. The class’ outstanding effort was recognised with the Contribution to the Local Community Award, sponsored by the Hackney Gazette at the College’s prestigious awards ceremony.


BTEC Level 2 Diploma


in Sport This course provides a background and range of skills and knowledge required for employment in the sport and recreation industries.


Entry requirements: BTEC Introductory Diploma (minimum merit grade), or 4 GCSEs grades D-G (including English), plus a satisfactory reference.


Possible next steps: BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (level 3) or employment in sport and recreation.

Diploma/Diploma in Sport The BTEC Diplomas in Sport are designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for progression into employment or further educational opportunities.


The BTEC Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) is a specialist qualification that focuses on a specific vocational area. You will study the core concepts common to all the Diplomas in Sport but will also study other areas that are key to the study of sports performance. This Diploma is an integral part of the education of young elite athletes in the UK, being part of the technical certificate requirement on the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence.

The Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) is a specialist qualification that focuses on a specific vocational area. You will study the core concepts common to all the Diplomas in sport but will also study other areas that are key to the study of these specific job roles.


Entry requirements: Level 2 BTEC Diploma (minimum merit grade) or 4 GCSEs at grades A-C (one of which should be English).


Possible next steps: University, undergraduate courses, Foundation Degree courses, or into employment in sport and recreation. Learners who complete the Subsidiary Diploma with a minimum of a merit grade, have the opportunity to progress to the Diploma in a second year.
