The diploma develops a broad range of skills so you can pursue the widest possible choice of careers in the sports and leisure sector or beyond. This includes youth work, events stewarding, health and fitness, sports coaching, grounds management and maintenance, sports stadium construction and management, sports and leisure club and centre management.
From the advanced level you can progress to a university degree in sports science, sports management, health promotion, occupational therapy or physiotherapy, osteopathy, dietetics or food science. Or it could lead to a job with training as a senior play worker, personal trainer, head grounds keeper or youth support worker.
All levels focus on different aspects of the main themes of sport and active leisure, as well as developing your standards of english, maths and iCt - skills essential to success in any business or learning environment. The key themes are:
• Sport and active leisure and the individual: Looks at the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle, the science of sport and exercise and how the body works.
• Sport and active leisure and the economy: introduces the sport and active leisure industry, its relation to other sectors and its contribution to the economy as a whole.
• Sport and active leisure and the community: Focuses on working with customers and the different requirements of specific populations or groups of people.
CODE: LSD1113 Foundation Diploma
Entry requirements: two gCse grades at e to g in relevant subjects (e.g. pe / science and english) or a relevant entry Level qualification (e.g. Skills for Working life). learners unable to meet these requirements will have the opportunity to take a literacy and numeracy assessment to clarify the suitability of the course for them.
Higher Diploma
Entry requirements: Four gCses, at least two graded D or above in relevant subjects (e.g. p.e. / science and english) or a merit grade or above in the BteC Level 1 Diploma (or a similar full Level 1 qualification) in a related area.
Advanced Diploma
Entry requirements: Four gCses at grade C or above in related subject areas (eg. p.e. / science, english, maths) or an equivalent full Level 2 qualification such as BteC level 2 diploma in sport (merit grade or above).
For these courses you might need to pay for uniform.
