This is a general introductory course for students who want to work in the construction industry. On this course you will get an introduction to the construction industry including: health and safety; painting and decorating - walls, windows, doors and frames; carpentry - basic woodworking skills including joints; brickwork - constructing a brick and a block wall.
Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements for this course.
Next steps: Construction Skills Diploma Level 2 or Apprenticeship in Construction.

Construction edexcel BteC level 3 Certificate
ALL | L3 | 2Y | W | FT | SEP |)| This course will provide students with enhanced knowledge of the key issues of sustainability and health, safety and welfare in the construction and built environment industries. it aims to develop the learner’s knowledge and skills, as well as the personal qualities essential for career development.
Modules include: health, safety and welfare; construction and the environment; science and materials; construction and building technology; graphical detailing; measuring; estimating and tendering.
Entry requirements: Five gCses (grades a - C) including english, science and maths, gnVQ/aVCe in either engineering or Construction, relevant NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualifications.
Next steps: Higher National Certificate leading to graduate studies or employment.

Construction Higher National Certificate

This course is aimed at those employed in the construction industries who are seeking to gain an industry recognised qualification. The course provides one of the key qualifications in the Construction Management, Surveying and Architectural Technology disciplines. Units covered in year 1 include: professional skills and communications; levelling and setting out; construction technology 1; information management; structures and construction science. Year 2: materials science; measurement and documentation; law, construction technology 2; environmental science.
Entry requirements: One of the following: BteC national Certificate or diploma, gCse minimum of five subjects at grade C or above including english and maths plus at least one pass in a relevant A Level subject, advanced gnVQ, irish leaving Certificate; three subjects at grade C or above, Scottish Certificate of higher education – four passes at Honours level.
Next steps: Many students move towards professional status by progressing to the Bsc (hons) courses offered in surveying i.e. Property or Commercial Management, Construction Management or Architectural Technology, at our partner university, London South Bank University, or to other universities. Students may also take up employment and progress through the professional bodies’ assessment process.
