Please note: A salon uniform and kit is a necessity for these courses. A list is available and students will be able to purchase this through the College.


This course will provide you with the basic skills required. A range of specialist barbering subjects are covered including: advising and consulting with clients; making a positive impression; shampooing, conditioning, treating hair and scalp; changing hair colour; styling and finishing hair; setting and dressing hair; cutting hair using basic techniques; health and safety; and promoting additional services or products to clients (optional).


Entry requirements: three gCses at grade A – C, or a good standard of literacy and numeracy, or entry 3 in english. Completion of a Level 1 Hairdressing course.


Next steps: City & guilds level 2 in Hairdressing, or a career as a barber.

Hairdressing Diploma in Hairdressing (nVQ) level 2

This is an intensive course suitable for those who have drive, enthusiasm and a huge passion for hairdressing. it covers everything you will need to take you forward to hairdressing success.


There are nine units in this course, covering a range of specialist hairdressing subjects, including: health and safety; giving clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation; advising and consulting with clients; shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp; changing hair colour; styling and finishing hair; setting and dressing hair; cutting using basic techniques; promoting additional services or products to clients (optional).


Entry requirements: A good general standard of education, three gCses at grade A – C or completion of a Level 1 Hairdressing course or experience of the hairdressing industry. A very good standard of literacy is required.


Next steps: City & guilds nVQ level 2 in Beauty, Level 2 Barbering, Level 3 after gaining employment, or employment as a Junior Stylist.
