This is an intensive one-year course designed for students over 19 years old who want to go on to university, but do not have the traditional university entry qualifications. Humanities and Social Sciences students choose three subjects from the following list: historical studies, literatures, linguistics, sociology, psychology. This is a credit based course, and to pass you need to gain a minimum of 60 credits. These are accumulated as the year progresses, mostly through coursework, although examinations are also set in some subjects.


Academic and tutorial support is given throughout the course, and you will receive help and advice with your university applications through the UCAS system.


Entry requirements: No formal qualifications are required, but your motivation and suitability will be tested at a College interview. You will also need to demonstrate writing skills at least equivalent to english level 2 (gCse grades a – C).


Next steps: A degree course in a wide range of subjects across the arts and social sciences.
