Hairdressing Cregg McPherson won first place in the Afro-Caribbean hairdressing category for the World Skills UK competition. Cregg’s innovative work gained him the accolade of one of the highest scoring students in the competition to date. Cregg said “The course at South Thames has allowed me to be more professional, work effectively and improve my customer service skills.”


Music


College band ‘Livewire’ did exceptionally well this year to win second place in the national final for the Popular Music category. The band have come in first place for the last two years, but narrowly missed out this year, with only a few points between first and second place.


Computing


Computing student Christian Johnson competed with the top it students in the country in the microsoft it technician final and came in second place. The gruelling two day competition tested many areas of the students’ computing expertise such as installing hardware and software and managing users through a server.
