This practical, work related qualification is comparable to A Level standard. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities. You will study a range of units such as Computer Systems, it trouble shooting, Communication technology, Computer networkng, it technical support, Comptia a+.
Next steps: Students who successfully complete the two year course can progress to university to study for a degree, for example the Kingston university Foundation in it for e-Business. Others may go directly into employment in a systems support role.

Computing Higher National Certificate

This intensive course is designed for those who wish to update their knowledge and skills or change careers in preparation for employment positions as computing specialists. it offers a broad base of skills for working with computers in a commercial and/or technical environment.
The course consists of mandatory and specialist modules. The mandatory core modules are: Business Skills for e-commerce, Computer systems, employability and professional Development. The specialist modules include: System Analysis and Design, Website Design, Database Design Concept, event driven programming Concept, Networking Technologies. Please note these units are subject to change. There are a range of assessment methods, including assignments, project work, and at least one assessment which evaluates the student’s skills outside the formal examination setting.
Entry requirements: Computing qualification at Level 3 or equivalent experience (e.g. Vocational a-level iCt, Business or science, a++/mCse/CisCo Certification, BteC national qualification). Mature applicants with relevant industrial experience will also be considered.
Next steps: Progress to a degree programme (usually starting in the second year), or into employment. a student with an HNC in Computing would be suited for work in Application Programming, Systems Analysis or Computer Support.
