ALL | L1 | 1Y | W | FT | SEP |)| This course is designed to prepare students for work in a particular construction occupation of their choice – you choose a specialism from the below options:
• Brickwork (trowel occupations) units include: walls in different bonds and materials; bricks and blocks; building site practice; occupational health and safety.
• Carpentry (wood occupations) units include: basic woodworking skills; application of different kinds of wood joints; project work.
• Plastering units include: finish; sand and cement; bonding.
• Painting and Decorating units include: oil/water based painting; wall coverings.
This course has been developed for delivery in a training environment so students will practice skills at college rather than at work. Assessment is based on showing what you can do in the workshop.
Entry requirements: There are no formal entry requirements on this course.
Next steps: Level 2 Construction, NVQ 2 or Apprenticeship.

Entry requirements: You should have a Level 1 qualification for this course.
Next steps: A higher level course, an Apprenticeship or National Certificate in Construction.

This is a general introductory course for students who want to work in the construction industry.
On this course you will get an introduction to the construction industry; health & safety; painting & decorating (walls, windows, doors and frames); carpentry (basic woodworking skills including joints); brickwork (constructing a brick and a block wall); basic construction skills test; communication and application of number.
Next step: Construction Skills Level 2 Diploma.
