This course is intended for students who would like to take the first steps towards working in the sport and leisure industry. This is a practical and theory course that combines class-based study with sports activities.


Topics include: taking part in sport, improving your own fitness, how the body works, working in sport and leisure, risks and hazards in sport and leisure.


Next steps: BteC level 2 diploma in Sport.


Entry requirements: You will need either gCse grades at e to g in relevant subjects (e.g. pe / science and english), a relevant entry level qualification (e.g. skills for Working life). relevant experience and / or training in the sports industry (e.g. coaching or fitness) will be considered in support of your application. Learners unable to meet these requirements will have the opportunity to take a literacy and numeracy assessment to check their suitability for the course.

Sport BteC level 2 diploma in sport


ALL | L2 | 1Y | W | SEP |)| This course is aimed at those with a real interest in sport and recreation and in developing long-term career opportunities in the industry. it will provide an introduction to sport, leisure and recreation as an employment area and a good basis to progress to further training, education or employment.


The course is made up of the following units: the body in sport; practical sport; planning and leading sports activities; injury in sport; fitness testing in sport; excercise and fitness instructing; anatomy and physiology; work experience within the sports industry. There is a ten day

work placement as part of the course and you will be required to obtain a Criminal records Bureau (CrB) check at a cost of £36 (subject to change).


Entry requirements: You will need four gCse passes, with at least two at grade d or above, in relevant subjects; a BteC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active leisure (at merit or above) or a related Level 1 qualification.


Next steps: Continue onto a higher level course such as BteC level 3 diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness).

Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness edexcel BteC level 3 diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness)

This course is aimed at those with a real interest in sport and recreation and in developing long-term career opportunities in the industry. it aims to extends your knowledge of the sport and leisure industry to prepare you for work at a supervisory/managerial level or study at university.


Key themes on this course include fitness training and programming, sports coaching, sports development, sports nutrition, principles of anatomy and physiology for sport, psychology for sport performance, sports injuries, practical team sports.


Next steps: higher education or employment in sport and leisure.


Entry requirements: Four gCses, graded a – C in relevant subject areas (p.e, science, english, maths) or a merit grade or above in the BteC level 2 diploma in Sport.
