By Paul Watson The V2 transmitter from BW Broadcast has received its first software upgrade, v1.4, which is being demonstrated at IBC for the first time. BW Broadcast says engineers have loved the
advanced 4-band audio processing built-in to every V2 transmitter, which has made stations ‘sound great right out of the box’; and features like Gold-Clamp transistors and quick-change, slide-in power supplies have made the V2 transmitter range the most easy-to- maintain and serviceable on the market.
Now, V2 has got better, the company says, thanks to this v1.4 upgrade, which has ultimately given it a much improved Ethernet interface; and because this web-based control system doesn’t require software to be installed, it can be easily operated from any smart- phone, including Apple iPhones.
Though the software
release is not critical, any customers using the transmitters’ Ethernet interface are advised to update to benefit from this new remote interface, says the company’s sales manager, Dave Gowenlock:
“The new update has seen a massive improvement in the V2's web interface. The
update can be loaded onto any model in the range – it only takes a minute – and it is well worth it, especially considering it is also free of charge. We are committed in continuing to offer value for our customers even after their purchase and our free updates are part of this vision.” 8.E74
OptiEdge designed to deliver for all DTH users Enensys Technologies
By Heather McLean Hot off the production line for IBC2013 is Enensys Technologies’ OptiEdge, a system designed to provides network optimisation in order to solve the problem of using the same satellite network to deliver services for both DTH
users (DVB-S2) and DTT (DVB-T or T2). Until now two different networks have been required to deliver a content bouquet to both types of viewer, points out Enensys. This is because receivers for one cannot receive the signal for the other due to transport stream differences. Now the same satellite transponders can be used for both DTH and DTT
services with OptiEdge. Enensys’ product is uniquely fully compliant with Single Frequency Networks (SFN) used in DVB-T2 deployments to allow multiple transmitters to use the same frequency in the same area to increase signal robustness, says the manufacturer. This means that the streams must all be exactly the same, down to the last byte, which OptiEdge
facilitates.
OptiEdge provides a single feed with no modification of the AV stream (the DTH signal remains untouched). A fully compliant T2 stream, which may well only contain some of the DTH services, can now be easily created, claimed Enensys. This is also single and multiple PLP-compliant. Enensys stated that this delivers a range of OpEx and
CapEx benefits. Examples include the fact that DTT operators are now able to cost effectively use a satellite network to reach customers in more remote areas to compliment DTT services. Alternatively, it means that separate DTT and DTH network operators can share the costs of satellite links and headend infrastructure. 2.A17
