Mo Goyal Q&A director, product marketing, Evertz

Has IBC come at a good time for the electronic media industry? Why?

It seems IBC has always come at a good time for the industry. A number of new challenges are being presented to our customers since last IBC. These include: monetising and supporting multi-platform delivery; new compression technology (such as HEVC); the upcoming Ultra-HD (4K)

format; and building new facilities that are more IP-centric.

What do you think are the key developments in, or threats to, your market sector at the current time?

The key developments in the market continue to migrate to more efficient methods of content delivery, whether it be file-based playout or

compression technologies. Our customers continue to look for ways to get the most out of their current facility, especially with the prospect of Ultra-HD on the horizon and the 0ever-growing presence of IP.

Why should delegates visit your stand at IBC? Based on our experience, Evertz is able to take a leadership position on

addressing the challenges at hand with the 3080IPX as an example. The IPX is the cornerstone to a future of the facility that is based on IP. Coupled with Magnum, broadcast engineers can replace traditional SDI infrastructure with IP-based ones without compromising their concerns for delivering quality video. 8.B40

Transport of delights: DVB-T/T2 solutions include the cProcessor line of transport stream processing solutions

New digital terrestrial capabilities Nevion By Ian McMurray

New digital terrestrial solutions, encompassing new SFN capabilities, improved spectrum utilisation, and DAB/FM distribution to transmitters are the focus for Nevion at IBC. Now backed by the complete T-VIPS portfolio, Nevion’s DVB-T/T2 solutions are claimed to simplify day-to-

day operations, reduce costs, and help the world’s leading service providers and broadcasters take advantage of new revenue streams. “To remain competitive in the new media landscape, the high efficiency, improved robustness and increased flexibility of digital solutions are essential,” said Helge Stephansen, senior solution architect at Nevion. “We’ve applied smart engineering to make the most of these

benefits, maximising efficient use of valuable broadcast frequency spectrum for audio, video and data delivery.” New at IBC, Nevion’s SFN capabilities include redundancy changeover solutions to maintain SFN operation, centralised and distributed local programme insertion, and multiple solutions to build reliable SFN networks over varying network types – IP, satellite or wireless. Nevion’s enhanced DVB-T2 solutions

feature EPG insertion that is said to provide up to 5% increase in spectrum efficiency. Contribution via visually lossless, extremely low latency JPEG2000 compression is claimed to provide enhanced quality for final DTT broadcasts, as well as the ability to offer additional services. Nevion says that new DAB/FM distribution to transmitters enables cost- effective migration from microwave to terrestrial IP-

based infrastructure for DAB+ broadcasting, with bitrate- efficient FM radio distribution by APTX audio compression over IP. Nevion’s DVB-T/T2 solutions include the cProcessor line of transport stream processing solutions, the DVB-T2 Gateway suite providing full- featured HD content delivery, seamless switching and monitoring solutions, and Connect remote monitoring and management solution. 1.B71

Sat survey Newtec

By Ian McMurray

A Future Network Technologies panel being hosted today by Newtec will reveal the results of a survey by the company. The survey summarises the input of 700 respondents from more than 400 satellite companies. It was designed to gauge the sector as DVB starts to roll-out extensions to the existing DVB-S2 standard. The results come as new standards are entering the market for quality (UHDTV 4K/8K), compression (HEVC) and satellite

transmission (S2 Extensions). Executives from leading players within the satellite industry will participate at the free event which takes place today at 15:00 in the Elicium Meeting Room, D203. 1.A49
