Gaining an edge on video delivery
Edgeware By Anne Morris
Distributed video delivery specialist Edgeware is previewing a new solution to address the needs of broadcasters and OTT providers struggling to deploy scalable multiscreen services. The latest multiscreen
version of Edgeware’s Distributed Video Delivery Network (D-VDN) solution includes intelligent session and content management options. With its content- aware clustering, the multiscreen D-VDN solution enables increased savings in backhaul costs when delivering large back- catalogues, catch-up TV or network PVR services. The company is also
demonstrating new D-VDN solutions for network operators, including a range of content-aware delivery options for retail and content delivery network wholesale services. The IPTV version of the
Edgeware D-VDN solution enables control and streaming between existing set-top boxes and new companion apps for second screen devices, such as smartphones or tablets. This technology allows service providers to break the constraints of their existing IPTV delivery network by providing the flexibility to quickly add compelling apps rather than re-engineer their entire service, says the developer. 14.C10
background noise suppression in film and TV post as well as in live broadcast environments such as newsrooms and on sports channels, says the developer.
The new system is an automated hardware
implementation of the manufacturer’s DNS technology: connected to its Mac or Windows-based Pro Tools host via an Ethernet cable, the processor provides the I/O for the system and is capable of handling two
independent channels simultaneously. Everything is processed in
realtime within the DNS3000, leaving the host computer’s CPU for other tasks. There is also a DNS Control System on show, which is a
plugin that runs on Mac and Windows-based Pro Tools HD and LE, as well as M-Powered systems. According to Cedar, it
provides a fast and intuitive user interface which is based on the company’s DNS1500 dynamic noise suppressor, which in itself is a standard for post, dubbing and audio forensic applications. 8.C98
