Never before has our industry faced such challenges… convergence, upscaling, new delivery platforms, mobile, online, broadcast, VoD. However, common fundamentals are still based around the quality of content production, and as HD camera systems get more affordable, the quality of lighting becomes ever more important. If you have the time and the
budget then the traditional incandescent AC lighting usually provides good results, but now there is a real alternative. LED lighting has now come of age and at IBC2013 Rotolight is launching six new ANOVA LED EcoFlood lights based on the very latest LED technology. The ANOVAs allow LED
lighting for the first time to really challenge incandescent light both in terms of colour rendering and output power, whilst massively outperforming it in terms of versatility, power
consumption, portablity, functionality and convenience. Rotolight has deliberately
tried to think ‘outside the box’ to come up with innovative, unique technologies to ease future workflows and inspire filmmakers. For instance, we created a lighting control APP, (Magic Eye HD) for iPad and iPhone which can control up to 256 Rotolight ANOVA lights plus third party DMX lights as well, and provides users with a familiar DMX style lighting console, scene memory and transition playlist. But the most original
(patented) feature is the ability to use the iPhone or iPad camera to measure and store location lighting, and then automatically reproduce it back at the studio – a real time saver for teams working on chromakey shots, reducing time in expensive colour grading/post production. The new Rotolight ANOVA LED EcoFlood lights deliver 1000W
(tungsten equivalent) but only consume 38 watts of energy at full output, so studios will save more than 96% of their electricity bill – and thanks to ANOVA’s minimal heat output, savings will also be made on the AirCon bill. Colour rendering on these
next generation ANOVAs is outstanding with a skin tone (R15) CRI of 98/100. The ANOVA can run on a standard broadcast battery (V-Lock or Goldmount) for up to four hours, and comes with a universal AC to DC adapter. In terms of portability, the ANOVA weighs less than 3kg. A superb raincover is made
by Portabrace, making it is ideally suited for location, ENG or studio lighting. Rotolight has developed a proprietary LED current driver system, which elimates PWM (i.e. flashing) common on so many other LED fixtures. This makes the ANOVA the perfect choice for high speed or super slow
