women’s robes, 90 sweatshirts, 41 lap robes, and 52 handmade Christmas stockings full of goodies to the Bay Pines VA medical facility to be given to veterans being treated there. The lodge also donated 66 tote bags containing shoes, socks, and food to the facility to be distributed to homeless veterans.


Palo Alto, CA, Lodge members visited the Palo Alto VA medical facility and provided 35


veterans with refreshments, bingo games, and door prizes. The total value of the prizes for the bingo games was $100, while the door prizes included items of clothing, watches, personal CD players, and travel bags. Telluride, CO, Lodge donated $150 worth of phone cards to the Grand Junction VA Medical Center.


Bridgeport, CT, Lodge members, in cooperation with members of several other civic organizations, laid wreaths on more than 400 veterans’ graves at Mountain Grove Cemetery in honor of their sacrifice. The ceremony was part of the nationwide Wreaths Across America coordinated wreath-laying event, in which wreaths were laid on more than 100,000 veterans’ graves at more than 600 cemeteries across the country on a single day.


Seaford, DE, Lodge members visited the Delaware Veterans Home, pro- vided 50 veterans with dessert, beverages, and live musical entertain- ment, and gave each veteran a goody bag. Lodge members also left 25 more goody bags for veterans who could not attend the party.


Boca Raton, FL, Lodge members visited the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center and gave $15 canteen books to 120 veterans.


Brandon, FL, Lodge members visited the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital

and gave gifts to 100 veterans being treated at the hospital’s Spinal Cord Injury Unit. Lodge members also gave packages of cookies to the nursing and medical staff at the hospital.


Edgewater-New Smyrna Beach, FL, Lodge held a Comedy Improv Night fund-raiser and raised nearly $280 for lodge veterans programs. Lodge members also held a Craft Show fund- raiser and raised nearly $140 for lodge veterans programs.


Englewood, FL, Lodge members gave more than 70 shoeboxes filled with toiletries, reading and writing materi- als, candy, and other small gifts to veterans living in area nursing homes.


Florida State Elks Association members who are also members of Elks Riders USA participated in a Poker Run fund-raiser organized by an American Legion post and donated $100 to assist homeless veterans.


Largo, FL, Lodge members volun- teered at a Stand Down for Homeless Veterans that was held at the Bay Pines VA medical facility. Lodge members assisted other civic and government organizations in providing


Manasota, FL, Lodge donated 100 blankets that were made by students at Blanche H. Daughtrey Elementary School to the lodge Veterans Service Committee. The blankets were made by the students using materials supplied by the lodge and were to be given to veterans at the Bay Pines VA medical facility.


Northeast District, FL, lodges donated $3,500 to Volusia Honor Air, which flies veterans to Washington, DC, to visit the National WW II Memorial, Arlington National Cem- etery, and other national monuments.


Orlando, FL, Lodge members provided a Christmas lunch at the lodge for 55 visually impaired veterans. The event also provided the veterans with gifts and musical entertainment.


Ormond Beach, FL, Lodge donated Christmas gifts such as coffee cups, pencils and paper, and $25 certificates to be given to 210 veterans at the Emory L. Bennett Memorial State Veterans Nursing Home.


Palm Coast, FL, Lodge held a Pearl Harbor Day Ceremony and honored 18 WW II veterans.


In other news, lodge members visited the Emory L. Bennett Memo- rial State Veterans Nursing Home and held a Christmas Party for 65 veter- ans living there. Members provided snacks and musical entertainment and gave the veterans a total of $1,500 in spending money.
