In other news, the lodge, in cooperation with a retail store, held a Families in Need fund-raiser and raised more than $2,500. With the funds, lodge members were able to deliver Christmas boxes to 20 needy families and $25 gift cards to 10 additional needy families. Each box contained enough food for a complete Christmas dinner. The lodge also donated $100 to the family of a girl who was being treated for cancer. In addition, the lodge and the retail store donated 900 cans of canned food and 200 boxes and bags of dry food to St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church to be distributed to needy people. In more news, lodge members attended a Court of Honor Ceremony for new Eagle Scout Connor Johnston, of Boy Scout Troop No. 201, and presented him with a certificate, a US flag, and a US flag pin. For his Eagle Scout Project, Johnston landscaped the area around a new addition to the St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church building.


In further news, lodge members sent 22 packages containing toiletries and snacks to US troops serving overseas.


Somerville, NJ, Lodge donated the use of its grounds to a retail store to hold a free crafts workshop for children with special needs.


Toms River, NJ, Lodge held a Christ- mas Party for 50 children with special needs and their families. Lodge members provided the partygoers with breakfast, and each child visited Santa and received a gift from him. In other news, lodge members


shipped 25 cartons of Christmas gifts and cards to US Army soldiers stationed in Afghanistan.


West Orange, NJ, Lodge donated $500 to the West Orange First Aid Squad, a volunteer organization that assists the West Orange Fire Department and the West Orange Police Department in emergency situations.


Westwood, NJ, Lodge Special-Needs Children Committee held its annual Christmas Party. Nearly 100 children and adults from nine area group homes attended the party. Attendees were provided with lunch, balloon animals, entertainment by clowns and a dance troupe, live musical entertain- ment, and a visit with Santa, who gave each guest a gift.


Albuquerque, NM, Lodge members gave more than 2,000 dictionaries to third-grade students at ten schools.

State College, PA, Lodge members attended a joint Court of Honor and Gold Award Ceremony for new Eagle Scout Alek Masters, of Boy Scout Troop No. 380, and his twin sister, Girl Scout Sarah Masters, of Girl Scout Troop No. 1213, who earned the Gold Award. Lodge members presented each scout with a certificate and a US flag. For his Eagle Scout Project, Alek led a team that landscaped the area surrounding a limestone kiln at Country Place Park in Boalsburg. For her Gold Award Project, Sarah created and placed trail markers for several trails at the Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center. In other news, the lodge held its annual State College Elks Christmas Charity Give-Away and assisted about 210 needy families, whose members included about 340 children. Each family was provided with a box containing food for a full Christmas dinner along with clothing, toys for the children, and books. A total of about 1,200 items of clothing, 1,400 new toys, 2,000 used toys, 1,200 toy stuffed animals, and 2,100 books were given to the families. The lodge was assisted by the Food Bank of State College, the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, St. John’s United Church of Christ, and a number of community volunteers.


Deming, NM, Lodge donated $300 to the local Shop with a Cop Program, which pairs police officers and needy children and allows the children to buy Christmas gifts.


Lordsburg, NM, Lodge provided temporary shelter to about 50 people who were stranded by winter storms.


Raton, NM, Lodge held its annual Charity Ball and raised about $1,500 for lodge charities. The event featured dinner, live music, dancing, and a silent auction.


Tucumcari, NM, Lodge members delivered Christmas food baskets to 40 needy families. Each family received
