LIQUID OR VAPOR

INDICATORS ON RECOVERY CYLINDER HANDLES

Unlike traffic signals where a red light always indicates “stop” and a green light indicates “go”, the red and blue handles on a recovery cylinder DO NOT always indicate “blue for vapor” and “red for liquid”.

It seems that the red plastic handle can be stamped “liquid” or “gas”. The blue plastic handle can be stamped “liquid” or “va- por”. As confusing as this may seem, manufacturers instruct us to read the stamping and not rely on the color to indicate what you believe it should be.

If the stamping states “liquid” - it is liquid, no matter the color. Likewise, if the handle is stamped “vapor” - is is vapor. This applies to cylinders only.

On manifold sets with red and blue gauges, blue does not indicate low pressure (typically vapor), and red does not indi- cate high pressure (typically liquid).
