The UC series is a vertical indoor air handler for use with split-system heat pumps or condensing units. The UC can be installed ona closet platform, hung ona closet wall, or recessed in a wall between the studs. All models are 22” wide to allow standard stud spacing for all sizes.

The cabinet is made of embossed galvanized steel and is fully insulated. The non- corrosive condensate pan is sloped to ensure proper drainage. For installation flexibility, drain piping can come from the bottom, left or right side of the cabinet. Standard features include: electrical disconnect, non-corrosive plastic condensate pan and 1” filter. Avail- able options are (all field installed): R-410A TXV kit, electric heater kits (up to 10 kW), wall panels for recessed wall installations, bottom return air kit and condensate overflow switch (contact the factory for bottom R/A kit and overflow switch).

REFRIGERANT LEAK DETECTION

How many times have you heard about a job with a small refrigerant leak that just coud not be found? The job is designated as one that “needs a small amount of refrigerant” each cooling season.

Are leaks so elusive that they can’t be found? No... They can be located if the right tools are used on the job. A thorough in- spection must be performed. There are times the leak(s) cannot be located on the initial service call using bubble solutions & electronic leak detectors. The leak should be located on the second call. Why on the second call? Because flourescent dye should have been introduced into the system on the first call when the system was recharged.

It should be explained to the homeowner that very small leaks are elusive. Explain how dye has been introduced into the system and how it will allow you to pinpoint the source of the problem. Have the homeowner call for service as soon as the system shows signs of not working properly. On the subsequent visit to the job, the location of the leak should be easily located. The dye that leaked out will show up with a bright green flourescent glow when the UV lamp illuminates it.
