Hays Travel has been hailed a ‘high street hero’ with its takeover of all Thomas Cook’s shops and is recognised as one of The Sunday Times’100 Best Companies to Work For
At Hays Travel, we recognise that we would not be where we are without the amazing individuals we employ. Recruiting these remarkable people from all walks of life and supporting them to enjoy rich, rewarding careers is what we do best. Our award-winning
apprenticeship programme is where many of our best managers and senior head office employees started their careers, but we also recruit great people at other stages of their life through our graduate scheme and travel academy. We have been championing

apprenticeships since our inception in 1980 and have won top accolades from the National Apprenticeship Service and the North East Business Awards. Last year, we took home the Investors in People National Apprentice Employer of the Year award. Apprentice recruitment
and selection is based on drive, passion and motivation; and, on completion of the programme, all of our apprentices secure employment with us. Over the past three years, more than 500 people have joined the Hays family via this route.

The travel academy is a six-month programme for people looking to enter the travel industry but lacking the relevant experience or qualifications. It was set up so that we could offer fulfilling careers to the many talented people from other industries who have a passion for travel. Our graduate scheme
allows university-leavers to work across a variety of head office departments gaining invaluable experience before finding their place within the hub of the business. At Hays Travel, we are proud
to employ happy, motivated staff, who enjoy rewarding careers across the business. Whether working in one of our 745 retail shops across the UK or in vital roles at head office, we encourage teamwork and an open and relaxed culture.

commercial and cruise “I started at Hays Travel in 2004 as an apprentice in one of our retail shops, then after four years I moved over to the finance department in head office where I studied accountancy, and then became the finance manager. “A few years later, I moved to the commercial department and I am now the head of commercial and cruise. I love working for Hays Travel. I’ve been given opportunities to progress within the business. Hays Travel has a ‘can do’ attitude and has instilled in me the self-belief that I can achieve big things. “I’ve always been supported
throughout my time here. I’ve faced many challenges, but it’s reassuring to know that there is always someone to help. “And I don’t see my career with
Hays stopping here. I have the ambition to achieve and know I will be encouraged to do this. “Much credit to [founder] John
and Irene Hays who have created this culture, giving opportunities to people like myself who left school without the best results!”
