Airports
Airports are like small towns, with an army of employees working around the clock in a fast-paced and customer service- orientated environment. Whether based on the
ground or up in the air, many aviation roles involve working shifts and no two days are ever the same. Members of the check-in teams are among the first people passengers see and their job is to make the boarding process as smooth as possible. Next up are members of the security team and the employees who work in terminal shops, cafes and executive
lounges, which are operated by different airlines. Other positions include passport and customs control staff, baggage handlers and airline representatives, to name just a few. Ground support staff and engineers prepare aircraft and carry out pre-flight checks and highly skilled traffic controllers ensure aircraft take off and land safely. Then there are many essential behind-the- scenes roles involving route planning and the day-to-day operation of the airport. Pilots and cabin crew roles
are always coveted positions and, of course, offer the opportunity to travel the world.
Airports are like mini cities, with a massive range of jobs from day-to-day running through to management (see box)

I love working for British Airways
because of the fast-paced, constantly-evolving environment. Every time I go to work I get to meet new customers and crew, and it’s great to have the opportunity to take care of customers and deliver a great service, regardless of how long or short the trip is.
