Nefeli Moutsiou, who is PR manager with Travelodge, explains how diverse her role is

I started with Travelodge two

From the welcoming face at the reception desk to the general manager overseeing the whole operation, there are many different roles in the hotel industry that provide a wide range of opportunities at home and overseas. Not surprisingly, the first

jobs that often spring to mind are the customer-facing roles including porters, concierges, the teams

working in restaurants and bars, housekeeping, wedding and event management and conferences. However, no hotel can

operate without a host of staff behind the scenes, including chefs as well as revenue managers, marketing professionals, reservation staff, and members of the finance and HR departments. There are jobs for school- leavers, on-the-job training,

and roles for graduates and those finishing college, with encouragement on all levels to “rise through the ranks”. Aside from some office-

based roles, a career in the hotel and hospitality industry is never a nine-to-five job, and with big chains having properties around the world, it’s a great way to work in overseas destinations with the chance to transfer between hotel branches or brands.

years ago as press officer, grew into the senior press officer role and was recently promoted to PR manager. Coming from a PR agency background, I never imagined the diversity and magnitude of projects I would work on in this in-house role. I have supported 42 new UK Travelodge openings, launched a budget chic concept, TravelodgePLUS, and much more. I’m thrilled to be part of Travelodge’s next growth programme, which includes opening 100 hotels in five years and helping to give my team the same opportunity Travelodge offered me.
