Travel in 2020
The number of Brits going on holiday is the highest it’s been since 2011, according to this year’s Holiday Habits report from ABTA. The research also
found that 88% of people polled went away in the 12 months to July 2019. Despite the political uncertainty, weakness of the pound and changing spending habits, it’s clear that Brits still prioritise going on holiday. Booking online is the
most common way that holidaymakers reserve trips. However, many people prefer to book face-to-face in an agency, or with personal travel consultants. The types of holidays
that people are looking for is evolving. ABTA found
that more than one in six people chose to holiday alone compared with one in nine people in 2017. They are either travelling alone or joining tour groups. While the most popular
places are maintaining their position, an increasing number of people are looking for new experiences, with off-the- beaten-track destinations enticing more travellers. Cruises are gaining in popularity, as the sector evolves and appeals to a wider range of travellers. Meanwhile, the touring
and adventure sector is also expanding, as people who wish to travel to lesser- known destinations prefer to have planned itineraries, like-minded people to travel with and the security of knowledgeable guides.
