Did you know that the UK serviced apartment sector is one of the fastest-growing segments of the UK hospitality industry? Set to double in size in the next
two years, these are exciting times for this dynamic young industry, which is expanding so rapidly that the option to stay in a serviced apartment is now a reality in every city in the UK. The global expansion is equally exciting, as more and more consumers prefer this flexible way to stay. One of the largest international owner
operators – The Ascott Limited – is on track to surpass 80,000 apartments before 2020, including a major new opening in London in 2018. In Europe, Staycity Aparthotels
(1,830 apartments in 10 cities) are expanding rapidly, on track to more than double in size to 4,500 apartments by 2019; while SACO The Serviced Apartment Company is more than doubling its portfolio across Europe to over 2,000 apartments with aparthotel openings in Amsterdam, Manchester, London, Cambridge and Dublin by 2020 and more to follow. Frasers Hospitality, the global operator/
owner, is on track to achieving 30,000 keys by 2019, with 62 properties operating in the UK and Europe.
Cycas Hospitality, the largest
extended-stay operator in London and one of the fastest growing across Europe, will add over 1,000 units to its portfolio by 2019, with six new properties currently under construction including Manchester and Amsterdam. And these are just a few examples.
So what is a serviced apartment? Serviced apartments offer facilities much like a traditional hotel but with the added space, convenience and privacy like at home, so you can enjoy living like a local when travelling. Self-contained units of all sizes are

programmes are up and running 42
in a number of serviced apartment operators, but whether you’re looking at an internship, a placement year or a postgraduate programme, bespoke programmes can be developed for those willing to be flexible, work hard, get on with people, take on extra responsibility, make decisions and use common sense – the cornerstones of a good career in the hospitality industry.
