During your English classes you will learn how to communicate orally and you will have many opportunities to practise and have fun speaking and performing. This is a very important life skill, one that you will be glad you mastered in school. You will need it on many occasions throughout your lifetime.
At the end of second year, you will be ready to do your first CBA (classroom-based assessment) in Oral Communication. Before the assessment, you will choose a FORMAT and TOPIC. You will then research the topic and prepare for communication. You will speak for three minutes on your topic and your task will be to show how well you can communicate as a speaker in the chosen format.
As part of your Oral Communication CBA, you will fill in a Reflection Note sheet. In this note you will reflect on the process of the preparation and the things you learned. A sample has been completed on the next page.
CBA 1: Oral Communication
*Reflection is a very important process. You should regularly think about your work, i.e. after each stage of the process is complete. This will help you to become better at oral communication.
