Studying Your Novel – Characters
It is important that you know the main characters in your novel extremely well as you can be asked about any of them in the exam. Here are some tips that you can apply to your own novel.
1. Who is your protagonist/s and what do they want?
2. How would you describe them and their personality? Find key quotes and adjectives to help you talk about them. Be able to refer to things they have done and what these moments tell us about them.
3. What is their attitude to things going on around them? 4. Do they experience a change of some kind from the opening to the resolution?
5. How do they react to other characters in the novel? What does this say about them? Are their relationships complicated or simple?
Pick a character from a novel you have studied. Imagine you are that character but keep it a secret from your classmates.
