She heaved herself up off of the sofa and shuffled over to the counter with her bags. Mr Lawrence Pritchard greeted her with a smile. ‘Good morning, Larry,’ she said. ‘I’d like to lodge a cheque please.’ ‘Of course, Miss Johnson. Would you like me to lodge it to your savings account or to your regular account?’ Before she could answer, she heard a loud BANG. Right behind her were two masked men, one tall and thin and the other small and round. Tey
had arrived at the bank moments before in a black car which pulled up at the front of the building. ‘GET ON THE FLOOR,’ the two men screamed, firing their guns in the air. In seconds everyone was horizontal. Penny noticed the tall one pulling two red shopping bags out of his pocket. He walked up to counter number four and placed them in front of Lawrence Pritchard. ‘FILL THE BAGS,’ he shouted in a horrifying tone. ‘If you don’t fill the bags, I’ll shoot you in the head!’ ‘Ok Ok,’ Larry cried. Just as the bags were filled, the sound of the alarm caught everyone by surprise. Te man pulled the bags off the counter, dropped them on the ground and ran over to the window to see if the police were there. He waved at the driver in the car outside, ran back to the counter and quickly picked up the bags. He shouted at the thin robber and they both ran out the door. Te whole thing was over in a few minutes. When everybody calmed down, Penny quietly got to her feet, picked up her shopping bags and left the bank with a sly grin on her face. ‘Sorry I can’t wait, Larry,’ she said. ‘I really have to catch a bus.’ When the robbers returned to their lair, they were very surprised to find the two red bags filled with apples, oranges and bananas and spuds instead of cash, cash, cash.
