Thinking back again on what characters you pretended to be when you were younger, pick one of these characters and imagine yourself in their shoes, e.g. a doctor, a witch, a gymnast. Write a poem as this very same character. You must have at least three stanzas and a strong theme.

We all find it difficult to remember the earliest years of our lives. You will listen to an excerpt from a radio play written by the well-known and much-loved Irish author, Maeve Binchy, entitled ‘Infancy’. In the play, baby Fintan is very aware of the actions that unfold around him, though he can’t communicate with his family. This piece demonstrates the difficulties in communication between the young and the old.
