n I could
• Briefly compare or contrast it with another work by the same poet
• Mention a poem with the same theme that I have already studied
• Use flash cards with key points on them, to which I can refer while I speak
• Use images or audio to accompany the presentation
Peer Assessment

D I must
• Make a list of key questions about the poem to guide my research
• Research the poet’s life, influences and other works • Listen to readings of other poems from this section and other sources
• Plan to speak for three minutes • Draft my work first, practise it (have a friend or teacher listen) and then edit it
• Include an introductory statement with some background on the poet
• Mention the theme, at least two key images and two poetic techniques used
• Include a reading of all/some of the poem in my talk • Use the speaking tips on page 268 when practising • Reflect back on my work when I have finished
In this collection you learned how to study and appreciate poetry. While you may not always understand a poem at first, you now know how to recognise many of the techniques that poets use in their work. All of this will help you to Show What You Know!
