exceptionally easy to formulate. The natural preservative offers
formulators a blend of naturally derived or natural identical ingredients. Including levulinic, sorbic, and benzoic acids. The preservative also contains
additional components that have the important benefit of extending the maximum effective pH range. This broader pH range of the natural preservative significantly expands the range of cosmetic and personal care products which can now be successfully protected with organic acid based preservatives.
How does it perform in real world formulations? The natural preservative offers highly effective, broad-spectrum protection to a wide range of end-use products and, in fact, offers greater system compatibility and efficacy than many other natural preservatives. Additionally, the natural
PERSONAL CARE NORTH AMERICA
preservative is effective at very low use levels compared with other natural preservatives and has been shown to protect some customer formulations with as little as 0.2% use level. As a result of this and other factors, the natural preservative cost-in-use is much lower than other natural preservatives. The data in Figures 1 illustrates not only
the strong efficacy of the natural preservative , as well as its effectiveness in a pH 5.5 shampoo formulation. The low use level of 0.4% translates into low cost- in-use.
COSMOS approval Troy has received COSMOS approval for the natural preservative. COSMOS approval represents an important milestone and supports Troy’s strategy of developing and offering more sustainable preservatives that fit today’s consumer trends while still delivering excellent performance and cost efficiency.
Conclusion TroyCare LSB1 addresses the market’s demand for effective, safer, ‘greener’ natural preservation. This innovative preservative consists of a synergistic blend of globally accepted organic acids that are naturally sourced or natural-identical. The resulting blend is a simple, customer friendly INCI listing that provides reliable and cost-effective protection. TroyCare LSB1 offers excellent broad-
spectrum efficacy in a wide range of systems – including those with pH as high as 5.5. This preservative offers superior efficacy to most other natural preservatives available on the market, and is effective at very low use levels. This translates into remarkably low cost-in-use compared with other natural preservatives, and greater peace of mind for formulators. TroyCare LSB1 represents a paradigm
shift in the world of natural preservatives for cosmetics and personal care products. Finally, formulators have an option for safer, ‘greener’ natural preservation that is also highly effective, offers greater system compatibility, and is cost-effective. The range of formulations TroyCare
LSB1 is recommended for is extremely broad and includes: shampoos and conditioners, body washes and hand soaps, creams and lotions, styling hair gel, wet wipes. The ingredient offers a wide range of
formulation benefits. TroyCare LSB1 delivers broad-spectrum efficacy and is odorless with very low color. It is stable and effective, with temperature stability for several hours at temperatures up to 65°C. It carries an excellent safety profile and is supplied as an easy formulating liquid that is soluble in aqueous systems (at typical use-levels) and can be easily incorporated into most formulations. This water solubility provides excellent flexibility to formulators. In addition, it is globally approved for use in all rinse-off and leave-on applications. PC
