therefore contribute to normalizing sebum production on both skin and scalp. This in vitro effect was confirmed in a clinical


study where 80 volunteers received a topical application of a cream containing 5% SiAd complex or a placebo twice a day for 28 days (Figure 3). A significant reduction in skin sebum content was observed as early as Day 14.


C The volunteers showed a 7.4% and 12.2%


reduction in sebum quantity compared to baseline (T0) after 14 and 28 days of treatment respectively, with a statistically significant difference compared to placebo at all times (Figure 3A). Skin appearance after 14 and 28 days of


treatment was clearly less oily than at baseline (Figure 3C). Interestingly, similar results were observed


on the scalp of volunteers who applied a lotion containing 5% SiAd complex once a day, with a 7.1% and a 11.2% reduction in sebum quantity after 14 and 28 days of treatment respectively (Figure 3B). This suggests that the SiAd complex could reduce oily hair and residues (e.g. flakes, dandruff) which was indeed observed by the volunteers themselves (data not shown). Promoting hair growth while reducing hair loss in a Minoxidil-like way Hair follicle has a ‘permanent zone’ composed of the hair sheath, the sebaceous gland and the arrector muscle, and ‘cyclic zone’ that comprises the bulb which undergoes a cyclic pattern composed of three phases: Anagen (growth), catagen (regression) and telogen (quiescence). The bulge is located at the interface between the permanent and cycling zones. It contains hair follicle stem cells that will migrate through the outer root sheath toward the hair dermal papilla and initiate the transition between the telogen (quiescent phase) and the anagen (growth phase) phases (Figure 1).
