September 2026 PERSONAL CARE MAGAZINE
Welcome to the September 2026 issue of Personal Care Magazine. I hope you had a great summer. This issue features technical
articles covering some of the hottest topics in the beauty
industry, from skin care to hair care and fragrances. We start with an article by Barbara Olioso, who
says Kao’s voluntary recall of its Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo in the US and Canada in July offers salutary lessons for personal care formulators on preservation strategies and testing. That recall – and a spate of others - are due
to Pluralibacter gergoviae, a bacterium with a talent for adaptive resistance towards many of the preservatives the industry relies on to keep products sterile. In her article that starts on page 19, Barbara sets out a number of practical steps formulators can take to tackle the problem. Elsewhere, new kids on the block Innosya
explores how its yeast-derived active ingredient can address menopausal skin care – another hot topic. To say Innosya are new kids on the block per se is
not quite correct – the French company is 173 years old! – but this is their first ingredient to be launched by its newly created Innosya Cosmetic Ingredients division. Also in this issue, Sironix Renewables explains
why fatty acid furans are an emerging class of multifunctional, bio-based formulation ingredients, while Metanovas Biotech explores the potential of an AI-designed peptide as a senopreventive agent targeting cellular senescence. Upcycled ingredients are covered by Caffe Inc.,
which presents coffee oil – a byproduct of spent coffee grounds - as an anti-ageing cosmetic active, while Expressions Parfumées describes a study to develop a cosmetic active that could be integrated directly into a fragrance concentrate effectively. Hair and scalp care – the latter being yet another
hot topic – are featured with Exsymol’s highlighting of novel silicium– adenosine complex capable of modulating sebum production while promoting hair growth in a minoxidil-like effect. Some of you will be reading this at the 2026
IFSCC Congress in Perth, Australia. For a preview of the Congress, turn to page 16. Enjoy the magazine.
