14 NEWS Extract slows skin ageing

Lubrizol Life Science – Beauty (LLS Beauty) has introduced Lapagyl advanced botanical ingredient, an oil-based extract from the South American lapacho tree that promises to slow ageing of facial skin. Lapagyl advanced botanical

ingredient is an oil-based lapacho bark extract that promotes a slower ageing process and an increased skin longevity, which leads to a radiant, younger and improved appearance. As we age, the telomeres that

protect our skin cell chromosomes shorten, which causes cellular senescence and skin ageing. This botanical ingredient works by helping to delay the shortening of telomeres which forestalls the signs of ageing skin. In vivo testing demonstrated its

efficacy. In a clinical test of 30 female volunteers, the subjects used a

cream containing 3% ingredient on half their face and a placebo cream on the other half twice a day for 28 days. The depth of crow’s feet

wrinkles decreased 21.6% while skin radiance and moisturisation increased, 24.4% and 17.9%, respectively.

Solution for scalp conditions

Symrise announces positive new research into their SymReboot L19 ingredient as an effective solution for sensitive and dry scalp conditions.

When the scalp barrier

weakens, dry dandruff can occur as levels of sebum and lipids get impaired and water loss increases. Symptoms include a dehydrated scalp with itching and redness, and small flakes that fall onto shoulders. The resulting dandruff scalp microbiome characteristically shows a higher amount of Staphylococcus and a reduced

second day for 14 days, users of a shampoo containing SymReboot L19 reported significant and visible decreases in flakes and scalp itching, along with significant improvements in scalp condition and its visual effects. After 28 days, SymReboot

amount ofCutibacterium compared to normal scalp. SymReboot L19 improves dry scalp

condition and promotes a healthy scalp microbiome. After washing every

L19 shampoo was found to support a favourable shift in the balance of the scalp microbiome by maintaining the level of Staphylococcus and increasing the level ofCutibacterium, while the opposite was found for the placebo shampoo.

EleVastin from Gattefosse is a targeted solution to gravity- induced skin sagging. The ingredient strengthens the elasticity of the skin, giving it the support needed to cope with this downward pressure. The efficacy of EleVastin has been demonstrated using various models of increasing complexity. The ingredient boosts key proteins involved in the synthesis and maintenance of functional elastic fibres: elastin, fibrillin-1 and fibulin-5. It also protects elastic fibres against their degradation by elastases. Through this mechanism of action, it ensures an increase of the density of elastic fibres coupled with an augmented skin elasticity. These last outcomes have been obtained using an advanced spheroid model developed in Gattefosse’s cell culture laboratory. Tested at 1% only, on 37

volunteers, the ingredient proved its capacity to reduce drooping of the lower face. Skin elasticity is significantly improved vs. placebo. Facial contours are better defined, and deep vertical wrinkles are significantly reduced. A novel and original measure of the effects of gravity on facial morphology was adopted, confirming the ability of EleVastin to limit the impact of gravity on ageing signs of the face.
